Talisman Peggy and Steve Kittelson Contact Peggy and Steve Via Email

This parlor kaleidoscope was unveiled at the 1997 Seattle convention and it served as an announcement of the upcoming marriage of Peggy and Steve.  It is a limited edition of 10 although #8 was not made until 2019 and the last 2 are reserved for the artists and family.  It has a 2M/10P mirror system that represents the 10 years that Peggy and Steve had been working together up until that time.

The glass panels are the focus of the kaleidoscope.  They utilize Northwest Coast Native American imagery to represent Peggy and Steve.  One side is a representation of a bear for Steve, the other side is a representation of a turtle for Peggy.  The glass panels are a major undertaking.  Over 100 individual pieces of glass go into the creation of each panel.  The glass is stacked and then fused and annealed, then stacked again and again fused and annealed.  This is repeated for a total of four firings for each panel.  The panels are then slumped to fit the curve of the barrel of the scope.  Each firing has a significant risk of an unsuccessful outcome, leaving the artists having to start over again; so it is a rather stressful process.

The wood barrel is curly maple, the eyepiece is ebony.  The fluid filled cell of the turning end has a black background and is filled with Peggy’s flame sculpted glass with a red, white and black palette of colors.
