“She plays with fire” debuted at the 1994 convention at San Francisco but had been introduced to certain preferred customers earlier in May with the offer to reserve one of the scopes but they would not be shipped until after the convention. They approached this scope a bit differently than they had done before in that all 27 of the scopes were completed before any announcement was made so that there would be immediate delivery of all the scopes during or shortly after the convention. The scopes also came with a “Certificate of Authenticity” that was signed by both Randy and Shelley.
The name of the scope and its claim to fame is that it was the scope that introduced “Lucini’s”. Shelley had taken a flame working class prior to this and had subsequently developed these flame-worked cell objects that had glass colors stacked on top of each other giving a much more colorful image.
The other first for this scope was the way the cell was made. There was a bevel at the end of the cell to allow more light in but still have a black background. This would later be called a “roof Prism” cell in later kaleidoscopes.
The signature is a bit different on these scopes also. The cell is merely signed “R04” but the black end of the cell is signed “Shelley ♥ Randy Knapp” around the perimeter with “1994” in the center.
