I encountered my first amazing kaleidoscope while on vacation in Aspen (staying in Glenwood Springs actually). It was on sale, and I thought "Wow!, this is magnificent". It was a Corki Weeks Oil Disc kaleidoscope. I brought it home, looked at it a few times thoughout the years, then a few years on, thought "maybe I should find more of those oil discs". They were $100 a piece, which is what I originally paid for the kaleidoscope... so I say no way, too expensive. Fast forward 20 years later I try to find those same oil discs and they're gone. Not knowing what I had, I searched far and wide, then discovered the gold seal meant Corki Weeks... then searched and started to find all different kinds of Corki Weeks kaleidoscopes. I have now collected over 8 kaleidoscope necklaces and 12-15 other Corki Weeks styles. I have two other designers, and have decided to expand and learn more about different designers, while being obsessed with Corki and her kaleidoscopes.
I find that my days are so busy, and I love working, but kaleidoscopes are one way that I seem to calm down, and create peace in my world. I enjoy the beauty and awe of seeing through the lens in wonder at what will appear next. The oils are magnificent how the slowly change without any assistance, but the stained glass have so much beauty as well. I'm hooked!

Finding a new style of kaleidoscope I didn't know existed. My head explodes every time I learn something new! I just realized "joy and wonder" and childlike play are key tenants I like to incorprate into my world, and being a collector of kaleidoscopes has been a way that I can manifest that childlike wonder and joy in my life.
I have grown a lot as a collector since I first signed up. I started as a Corki Weeks collector, but acquiring almost 125 scopes from Bob Shupe's collection has made me a well rounded collector. I enjoy Randy and Shelley Knapp, Charles Karadimos, Peggy and Steve Kittleson, Mark Tickle, David Collier, Peretti, and Koji Yamami, in addition to Corki now. I like it when a scope draws you in and envelopes or surprises you!
Vintage kaleidoscopes by Knapp, Peretti or any of the artists mentioned above. I like oil cells, as well as dry, and love necklace scopes!
