Biography/Artist Statement

ROCCO (Roi) Ramon is an artist with an architectural background and a licensed architect with more than 20 years of practice. He founded Studio Yabaye in Israel, where he designs and builds kaleidoscopes and teleidoscopes one at a time. Each instrument is built by hand in the studio - most from brass or aluminum tube, cut, fitted and hand-finished, others from further materials. Object chambers are dry or oil-filled. Inside, front-surface mirror systems in several configurations reflect rotating wheels and cells of glass and stone into symmetrical patterns. Lengths run from 9 to 28 cm, and new designs are in continuous development. Every piece is signed and ships with its stand and a signed certificate of authenticity. The work applies an architect's method to optics: proportion, mirror length relative to mirror width, light and material. Commissions include engraved corporate editions, among them 75 pieces for Coldwell Banker Caine, alongside individual bespoke pieces. More than 180 pieces are now with collectors and clients.
